The Bahamas Ministry of Foreign Affairs has recently published a list of countries whose nationals need to apply for a visa to visit The Bahamas, even for day trips with Balearia Caribbean.
Attention: If your nationality is on this list, you must apply for a visa before your trip to The Bahamas.

Immigration and Visa Requirements for The Bahamas
Do I Need a Visa to Visit The Bahamas?
Depending on your country of citizenship and residence, the entry and visa requirements for visiting The Bahamas vary. If you were born in one country and reside in another (other than the United States or Canada), you’ll need to present documentation from your country of birth.
Here’s information on entry requirements for certain countries. Based on your place of birth and residence, we recommend contacting your country’s consulate for further travel requirements to The Bahamas.
U.S. Citizens
U.S. citizens traveling to The Bahamas, either on the Fort Lauderdale-Bimini or Fort Lauderdale-Freeport route, should visit the travel section at www.cbp.gov—the official U.S. Customs and Border Protection website—for international travel regulations.
U.S. Permanent Residents (non-citizens)
U.S. residents who are not U.S. citizens need the following documentation:
For visits NOT exceeding 30 days: Permanent Resident Card (Green Card), along with a valid passport from the country of birth.
For visits exceeding 30 days: If you want to stay longer than 30 days, you must hold a valid national passport and a Bahamas Visa if you are a U.S. resident but not a U.S. citizen.
Canadian Citizens
If you are a Canadian visitor, you’ll only need a visa if your stay will be longer than eight (8) months. However, the following documentation is required:
- A Canadian passport with an expiration date no less than three months beyond your Bahamas departure date (if traveling directly from The Bahamas to Canada) and no less than six months (if traveling through other countries, like the United States).
- A return ticket to Canada.
Canadian Permanent Residents
Canadian permanent residents (formerly known as Landed Immigrants) may stay in The Bahamas for up to 30 days without a visa. They must travel with and present the following documents:
- A valid passport from their country of birth or nationality with an expiration date of at least three months (if returning directly) and six months (if returning through other countries, like the U.S.) from the Bahamas departure date.
- An original Canadian Permanent Resident Card with an expiration date of at least three months (if returning directly to Canada) or six months (if returning through other countries, such as the U.S.).
- A return ticket to Canada.
If your stay in The Bahamas exceeds 30 days, please contact the nearest Bahamas Consulate or High Commissioner for further information on requirements.
Latin American Citizens
To visit The Bahamas, citizens with Latin American passports must present:
- A valid passport covering, at minimum, the entire stay in The Bahamas.
- If the stay is under three months, a Bahamas visa is not required.
- A six-month validity requirement after the Bahamas departure date applies if the destination country has this requirement.
- A return or onward travel ticket.
- A paid hotel reservation confirmation (if staying in a hotel) or the name and address of your lodging.
- Proof of funds to cover your stay, including that of any companions.
Other Countries
Citizens from countries other than the U.S. and/or Canada must present:
- A valid passport to enter The Bahamas, covering the entire period of travel and at least six months beyond the departure date.
- Certain countries (see list above) require a Bahamas visa.
- If traveling to a country that requires six months of passport validity after Bahamas departure, this will also be a requirement upon entering The Bahamas.
- A return or onward travel ticket.
- A paid hotel reservation in your name (if staying in a hotel) or the name and address of your place of lodging in The Bahamas.
- Proof of sufficient funds to cover your stay, including that of any companions.
* Visa Waiver Policy for Indian Citizens with Visas for Canada, Schengen, the U.S., and the U.K., and Indian Citizens who are Permanent Residents in these Countries
Indian nationals meeting the following conditions do not require a visa:
- Indian citizens with a visa issued by Canada, the U.K., the U.S., or a Schengen member state for stays up to 90 days.
- Indian nationals with a permanent residence permit from the U.K. or a Schengen member state for stays up to 90 days.
- Indian citizens with a U.S. Permanent Resident/Alien Resident Card (I-551 form) for stays up to 30 days.
- Indian citizens with a Canadian Permanent Resident Card for stays up to 30 days.
Other Indian nationals not meeting these conditions must apply for a visa to visit The Bahamas.
Traveling with Minors
Do minors traveling with one parent or adults other than their parents need documentation?
YES. When a minor travels with one parent, a notarized letter of permission from the non-traveling parent is required.
If traveling with adults other than their parents, a notarized letter from the parents or guardians is needed, authorizing these adults to travel with the minor outside the minor’s home country and to seek medical care if necessary.
Are Vaccinations Required to Visit The Bahamas?
Most visitors to The Bahamas do not need special vaccinations before entering the country.
Travelers over one year old from countries with a risk of Yellow Fever transmission must present a Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate.
Travelers from the following countries must present this certificate:
- Latin America: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, and Venezuela.
- Africa: Angola, Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea, Ethiopia, French Guiana, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sao Tome and Principe, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Sudan, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda.
Travelers who transit for more than 12 hours in an airport in a yellow fever risk area must also show this certificate. The vaccine must be administered at least 10 days before entry.
As of January 2014, travelers from Trinidad and Tobago no longer need to show this Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate.
If coming from a country where yellow fever is endemic or there is an outbreak, The Bahamas will require proof of yellow fever vaccination.

Customs Regulations
Customs Requirements upon Arrival in The Bahamas
All passengers arriving in The Bahamas must complete and sign an immigration form and keep part of the card until departure.
This luggage declaration is mandatory. Each adult visitor may bring up to 50 cigars, 200 cigarettes, or 453 grams of tobacco, one liter of liquor, and personal items (such as personal radio headphones, a bicycle, two cameras, etc.).
All imported beer is subject to a $10 duty per gallon (or $10 per 3.78 liters) or $18 per case.
All passengers arriving in The Bahamas may make purchases of up to $100 without declaring them. Purchases over $100 must be declared upon departure.
